Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Sookie (Anna Paquin) - True Blood Season 2

True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård has promised fans that an upcoming romance plot is genuine.

The 33-year-old Swedish actor – Eric Northman on the HBO series – told Digital Spy that his alter ego’s feelings for Anna Paquin’s Sookie are real.

“He’s intrigued by her, for sure. When he meets her for the first time, he knows there’s something different about her and that intrigues him.

“He doesn’t care too much for humans in general – he thinks they’re pathetic – but when he meets her, there’s something about her. He can’t put his finger on it, but he’s curious for sure.”

Skarsgård also dismissed claims that the plot is a case of ‘forbidden fruit’ and suggested that Eric could crush Stephen Moyer’s Bill Compton in a fight.

Sookie aside, is there anyone else in the show at the moment that Eric would be a good match for?
“I don’t know, man. He’s already got his Pam – even though that’s not a sexual thing, he’s got his partner. For sexual attraction, it’s all about Sookie.”

How far into the third season will we see them acting on the attraction?
“I don’t know – we start filming next month and I haven’t seen the script yet! I don’t know what’s gonna happen. But it’s building up…”

Alan Ball has hinted that the Queen of Louisiana will get her comeuppance this season. Will Eric have anything to do with that?
“They have this little business on the side so they’ll definitely interact more, I’m sure. Maybe they’ll get punished for that – I don’t know….”

Hm. I’m wondering if Alex was responding to questions about how close Alan Ball will be following the Sookie Stackhouse series (of books) in which Sookie found Eric at the side of the road, bedraggled and without memory of who he was? She took him in and in that period ( weeks?) he feel madly in love with her–and she had “real” feelings for him as well.

Alan Ball grants interviews frequently (and I must say he is quite charming, witty– and frank). In a recent interview he stated that the longer HBO’s True Blood series continues, the further away from Charlaine Harris’s books he’s going to get, inevitably. It makes sense as he introduces new characters, eliminates some others–it seems that it would change the storylines in an almost exponential way.

For me, as long as the True Blood series remains fun and exciting as well as brilliantly written, acted, directed, staged–I don’t ask for much, lol–I’m on board.
