Kevin Alejandro as previously reported , was cast in the upcoming third season of Alan Ball’s hit series for HBO True Blood. Alejandro will play Jesus, a caretaker for Lafayette’s mother (Alfre Woodard), as well as a love interest for Lafayette (fan-favourite Nelsan Ellis).

Alejandro, who’s appeared in everything from Southland to Ugly Betty to Weeds spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what fans can expect from him on True Blood. Here’s an excerpt from the EW interview:
What can you tell us about your character?
I’m introduced pretty early in this next season as a caretaker for Lafayette’s mother, who is played by Alfre Woodard. I’m his love interest… that’s all I can say. It unwinds tremendously. I mean, you know True Blood. There’s a lot of stuff going on. I got lucky. It’s one of the shows that I watch and love, and now I get to be (a part of it).
Is your character a vampire?
That I cannot tell you. I really don’t know. The (showrunners) are really good at keeping it secret from everyone. I think it’s kind-of cool not knowing.

Alejandro also spoke with MTV about his character, which was specifically created by Alan Ball for True Blood as “Lafayette” died in the first Sookie Stackhouse novel.
“I’ve never really played a strong gay character or anything like that,” Alejandro told MTV. “[Alan] gives me little hints of who [Jesus] might be and what he might be going through, so I’ll research those things, like what makes up that guy.”
What Kevin does know about Jesus… is that he’s a hospital orderly who takes care of Lafayette’s mother, played by acclaimed actor Alfre Woodard. In fact, Kevin said his first scene on his first day of shooting was with Alfre. “I’m sitting there holding a bowl of peas, because I’m feeding her — she’s in the hospital. I’m sitting there and she’s spitting peas at me and I’m like ‘Wow, Alfre Woodard is really spitting peas at me.’”
I am really looking forward to seeing how he and Nelsan create the chemistry of their romance!
